A 17-year-old and his companion departed a Colorado high school around 3:30 p.m. and went in search of a location to capture homecoming images this weekend, the sworn statement indicated.

The adolescents drove around and observed a residence with a lake and a pier. They halted to attempt to contact the property owner to obtain permission to capture images near the lake, as per a sworn statement.

The young men parked in front of the entrance, walked up the driveway to the residence and knocked on the door, but received no response, the sworn statement indicated.

They then walked down the driveway and returned to the vehicle, which was parked on the roadway near the property. One of the young men then retrieved his school folder and was composing a note to leave for the property owner when they observed a truck arrive and obstruct their vehicle, the sworn statement indicated.

The operator then exited the truck and walked toward the front of the vehicle, removed a handgun from his holster and aimed it toward the young men. They then heard the handgun discharge and observed the windshield glass shatter, the sworn statement indicated.

The young men informed authorities they heard the truck operator say 'oh d---, my firearm discharged," according to the sworn statement.

The young man in the passenger seat then exited the vehicle, removed his shirt and ran around to the operator's side and began to assist his companion, applying pressure to his injuries, as per the sworn statement.

The operator then attempted to assist in providing aid, but the young man pushed him away and inquired why he shot his companion, the sworn statement indicated.

The victim informed the sheriff's office he did not believe the man "deliberately shot him," and he didn't observe the firearm but heard the discharge. After the firearm discharged, the shooter attempted to assist the young man, according to the sworn statement.

The victim was "bleeding profusely from his visage and had blood flowing down his arm" when officers responded to the scene, as per a sworn statement. The 17-year-old's companion was holding a white t-shirt up to his visage to apply pressure on the injury, the sworn statement indicated.

An apparent bullet hole in the windshield of the vehicle was centered where the operator's seat was situated.

When an officer attempted to inquire if the man -- 38-year-old Brent Metz -- had discharged a firearm, he did not answer the question and stated he wanted to speak to his legal representative, the sworn statement indicated.

Metz informed authorities the firearm was in the truck for safety purposes and he was placed in restraints, according to the sworn statement.

Metz was then apprehended and transported to the sheriff's office, where he was booked into jail for first degree assault, felony menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm and reckless endangerment, according to the sheriff's office.
