Former President Donald Trump reiterated false claims regarding Vice President Kamala Harris' racial identity, including a baseless assertion that she "happened to turn Black."
Harris Pushes for Second Debate with Trump
When questioned by moderators about his previous statements, Trump responded on Tuesday, stating he "couldn't care less" about Harris' racial background.
"I don't care what she is. I don't care," Trump remarked. "Whatever she wants to be is fine with me."
Taylor Swift Endorses Kamala Harris, Criticizes Trump
In August, during an interview at the National Association of Black Journalists conference in Chicago, Trump falsely claimed that Harris had not initially identified as both Black and Indian.
"I didn't know she was Black until a few years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?" Trump said during the NABJ interview.
He further added, "She was Indian all the way, and then suddenly she made a turn, and she became a Black person."
Jake Tapper Critiques Trump, Praises Harris’ Debate
Harris has consistently identified as both Indian and Black, fully embracing both aspects of her heritage.
Following Trump's renewed comments, Harris criticized him, accusing him of using race to create division throughout his career.
"Honestly, it's tragic that someone aspiring to be president continues to use race as a tool to divide the American people," Harris said. "I believe the American people deserve better than this, and they want better."
