A newly established "$16.6 million" mental health crisis center in Leesburg is projected to commence operations by 2026.
Loudoun County is commencing construction on a facility designed to offer urgent psychiatric assistance for individuals experiencing a crisis, the county announced this past Monday.
The forthcoming Crisis Receiving and Stabilization Center (CRSC) will offer round-the-clock assistance, featuring 10 beds specifically designated for short-term stabilization of behavioral health crises and 16 recliners for individuals requiring an evaluation lasting under 24 hours, as outlined in the proposal.
The "$16.6 million", "20,500-square-foot" facility is scheduled to welcome its first patients in 2026 at Meadowview Court in Leesburg.
This expenditure was approved by the Board of Supervisors. The county secured "$9.7 million" in funding from the federal government, the government of Virginia, and grants at the regional level.
Government officials express hope that the CRSC will lessen the burden on hospital emergency departments and law enforcement personnel by redirecting individuals undergoing mental health crises away from their care.
