Kansas Air National Guard member Barbara Dipoli, 53, dies aboard Air France flight from Paris to Boston despite onboard medical intervention.
An individual aboard an Air France international service from Paris to Boston succumbed during the journey on Tuesday evening, according to statements from airline officials and law enforcement authorities.
Authorities have confirmed the deceased as Barbara Dipoli, 53, a resident of Topeka, Kansas, Massachusetts State Police disclosed to NBC News on Thursday. Sources at NBC Boston identified Dipoli as an active service member with the Kansas Air National Guard.
"Air France confirms the medical emergency involving a passenger during flight AF334 operating between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Boston on January 14, 2025," according to an official airline statement released Tuesday.
Medical intervention was attempted through combined efforts of the flight crew and an onboard physician, but resuscitation efforts proved unsuccessful, airline representatives stated.
"Air France emphasizes that all crew personnel undergo regular certification in emergency response protocols," the carrier's statement noted.
Local sources at NBC Boston reported emergency response units were observed approaching the Air France aircraft following its arrival at Boston Logan International Airport.
Law enforcement officials from Massachusetts provided limited information regarding the incident, classifying it as an "unattended death." State investigators are currently conducting inquiries into the circumstances.
"The official determination of cause and manner of death remains pending from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner," law enforcement representatives stated Thursday.
